MSSL delivers services in every district of Sierra Leone through its Outreach, Centres/Clinics, and Social Marketing channels.

The Function & Role:

The Pharmacist ensures the safe, efficient, and compliant management of all pharmaceutical products used across MSSL service delivery channels. They are responsible for providing medications, managing stock, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting clinical teams to deliver high‑standard SRH and general health services.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide supervisory support to pharmacy technicians, quality assured goods received in our warehouse, ensuring compliance with legal, ethical, and professional standards, and facilitating the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred pharmacy services. The Pharmacist is required to manage our chain of Pharmacies using their Pharmacist Licence as their license should be exclusive used for MSSL use during the period of employment.


Key Responsibilities:

• Supervision & Oversight: Oversee pharmacy technicians’ work, including dispensing, inventory management, and customer service.

• Training & Development: Conduct regular training sessions and assessments to enhance technicians’ competencies.

• Quality Assurance: Perform quality assurance check on all product received from our central warehouse whenever goods are received and Implement and monitor quality assurance protocols to ensure safe medication practices.

• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all pharmacy activities comply with national pharmacy laws, guidelines, and ethical standards.

• Patient Safety & Care: Support pharmacy technicians in providing accurate medication advice and resolving medication-related issues.

• Reporting: Maintain accurate records of pharmacy activities, incidents, and supervisory actions; report to relevant authorities as required.

• Ethical Practice: Promote professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct among pharmacy staff.

• Develop and implement product quality assurance policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and meet customer expectations.

• Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess product quality and identify areas for improvement.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product development, manufacturing, and customer service, to address quality issues and implement corrective actions.

• Analyse product performance data, customer feedback, and market trends to identify opportunities for product enhancements and quality improvements.

• Lead investigations into product quality incidents, deviations, and complaints, and oversee the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.

• Stay abreast of industry developments, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to product quality and training practices.

• Responsible to quality assured all product received in our store to validate the expected product quality and packaging against what was actually received and sign off on the Quality Assurance Report Form before a payment can be done.

• To arrange for the necessary inspections to be carried out by regulatory authorities including PBSL in the selected facilities where MSSL products are kept, sold, stored or manufactured.

• To inform MSSL promptly of any adverse drug reaction, non-serious adverse event, serious adverse event, product technical complaint, lack of drug effect, or any other complaint concerning the product

• Carry-out any other duties as reasonably requested by the line manager and/or management.

Qualification & Experience

  • • Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy (BPharm) or equivalent from an accredited institution (essential).
  • • Valid license with the Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone to practice as a registered pharmacist (essential).
  • • Additional training in reproductive health commodities or logistics (desirable).
  • • Basic IT skills including familiarity with MS Excel and electronic stock tools (desirable).
  • • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a healthcare setting in Sierra Leone. community pharmacy practice essential.
  • • Experience in supervising pharmacy staff or technicians is desirable.
  • • Good knowledge of pharmacy laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
  • • Experience working in a sexual and reproductive health (SRH) or family planning service environment (desirable).
